They said the same thing (James May = Stig) on BBC Breakfast today, I think they are just trying to take the focus off of the guy who is (or is claiming to be) the actual Stig. It was mentioned on another news show that they [BBC] are going to court to stop an autobiography being written/released which would name the actual Stig, and ruin it for the fans. What it would ruin I have no idea.

I always thought the Stig was a different person every place they went, like the track pro or something.

On a tour of silverstone i went on a few months ago i was having a look around the BRDC, and one of the tour guides informed me that there are more than one stig, and that they each specialise in areas/types of car.

It's different people i think. Like when they get Formula 1 cars on, the Renault for example. You can't just jump into an F1 car and drive it like that, its not physically or mentally possible, no matter what you've driven before.

Schumacher too, "Schumacher is the stig", On the same episode that they have the Ferrari FXX In, The car that you buy and are not allowed to take home... you have to leave it at the show room. We all know Schumachers connection with Ferrari, hence why they had him driving the FXX on that day.

They specialise in being whichever of the 6 or 7 precision or touring car drivers they use that isn't doing anything else that week.

Ben Collins hasn't been allowed to drive as Stig since he announced to the press that he was Stig, which was about a year ago! Where have you all been?

Most of the guys who drive in the various special events such as the car football or coach racing have driven as Stig at some time or another. There is no one Stig, the whole point of the character is to just forget about the person driving because they know they can't get the same driver all the time. These guys have pretty full diaries.

Want to poor anymore sick over it? :)|

We all know its not the same person, its just an unspoken agreement. Like the black Stig in the African Special, of course that was Ben Collins too.

Formula 1 isn't turn up on the Friday, 3 Practice sessions, Quali and Race. Its an all year round job, drivers dont get a day off, constantly developing the car with aero packages etc throughout the season. They're constantly away and get a couple of weeks off in the middle of the season, and a short winter break.

There'd be no time for that in an F1 drivers life.

Actually I think Lewis has done it at least once. I believe they are given a supposed 'Stig line' that they are meant to stick to but you can see small differences in the line taken week to week. The stunt engineers do talk to us quite openly about who's doing it, and what's going on. I know roughly what's been happening there this week, and anyone who heard it driving from Suffolk to Guildford probably knows too!

The Stig is Rubens! No-one else could lap the top gear track faster than the stig! Ergo....

I'm pretty sure he was at some point, but not now. you might find it is an Ex ralley driver or even an F1 test driver. If you watch the laps completed by the F1 guests they all take the corners slighty differently to the Stig which then might point to him not being an F1 driver at all.
