Gearbox Identification

I have now got a rod change SC/CR box in my current Mini and the remote one is just gathering dust in the garage so I will put up for sale at some point but I would to like know it's exact origins for the advert. You will notice that the box has been ground back to give clearance for the rod big ends and also it has been welded around the area of No.1 rod to put some strength back in, so maybe it’s a small bore Cooper box???
I did ask Guessworks if he knew what it might be when I bought a speedo drive off him back a Xmas time but the casting number I gave him didn't seem to be one he recognised. If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

As long as its a remote casing not a magic wand its a small bore MK1 Cooper box
Cheers for that, it is a remote casing so my suspicions have been confirmed. The Z28471 number looks like it has been stamped by hand, is this normal on these boxes?
Edit: Stupid question time. Is the box 4 synchro?

but, it's certainly not a 1300GT box, it's from a small bore motor, eg 998 and 3 synchro, as said above it's been opened out to enable the fitting to a large bore or long stroke motor and the 'welding' is where too much metal was taken out and had to have some extra welded in...
the 22G68 case was fitted to the cooper and also all mini 1000's using the remote, before the introduction of the 4 synchro remote in the late 60's
Condition wise it the gearset seems to be in fairly decent nick, you can usually tell how well, or badly, a 3 synchro has been treated by the wear on the layshaft small end and the 1st/2nd synchro ring.... this still seems to have most of the point's on the teeth left which means it hasn't been rammed into 1st very often.
Need's a good clean.

Ah, not that I remember the conversation, crumbs I can't remember what I was doing 10 minutes ago any more... lol

LOL, many thanks for the info. I did call you between Xmas and New Year and you seemed rushed off your feet so no wonder you don't remember.
It's good to know that 1st gear looks OK as the box was reportedly out of a grass-track racer and may have had a hard time. Do you think it would sell better as a complete unit with the Salisbury or would it sell easier with the diff and final drive split from the box? Also, do you have any idea how much it would be worth, it has a 14/63 – 1:4.5 (I think) final drive and I also have a set of Hardy Spicer couplings and the remote housing as well?

I'd be tempted to split it completely, sell the Diff as a unit, sell the output shafts separately as well as the CWP, and then remove the SC gearset from the box and sell that as a set, in bits you could be getting something like 600+, as a complete unit I think it's about £400's worth on ebay, and then you may still get 20 or 30 quid for the empty case.
