Where is the best place to look for or buy a 4m scaffold pole for putting a mini on a Rotisserie?

Where have other people got theirs from?

I was goint to use a scaffold pole for through the car and build the end frames myself I just dont know where to get the pole without buying a brand new one (which I dont really want to do). Anyone got any advice?

Why not ring a few local scaffold firms up and ask if they will sell you one. I was lucky my brother was a scaffolder

Anon - Where'd you get that price from the cheapest I have just searched for was £16?

Ended up welding two together, did the job fine.

just went to scafolers just up the road from my unit, just have a try around local scaffolders.
£16 doesn't sound to bad if its a new one though

i often see a few flatbed vans driving round ful of scaffolding, just half inch one lol.

find a reclaim yard, great for cheap stuff like that. a few years back my dad got a whole load of scaffoldin for 20 quid so defo worth lookin round

Try a local bricklayer, he might be able to "Win" one off of the site he's on, a mate got mine for me that way, FREE!

I must say that I over engineered the job totally as usual.

The rear bracket for was made from an Austin A30 Rotodip blank which is metal and exactly the same shape and angle, hardly surprising with the old BMC (later A35 were cardboard as are the mini ones) as the Mini was to replace the A35. The front is a diferent angle and position, in the pic of under the bonnet you will see some bolts, I am to make two cross plates to clamp the inner and outer together as I don't like the idea of relying on 4 small set screws.

never liked the idea of mounting on the front bulkhead and seat back

not too clear in these pics but it's a lot more solid a way of mounting it on a spit.

When in the factory the purpose of the holes front and rear was to mount on a spit to go through what is termed as a "Rotodip" to put a coat of brown panel primer to stop rust attacking till the shell was needed. The "square" corner to the round hole was to stop the shell spinning, so I think its quite safe, what worked in the factory is good for me.

Having said that, I do agree your front mount is a good one but you have no rear bulkhead to mount on anyway. That is a fair idea accross the shock mounts as long as you have strong wheel arches.

I made mine with no reference to anything apart from knowing the factory used the rotodip holes for painting, its nice to see other ideas as mine are not set in stone, I like to think I live life with an open mind.

I have an Austin A35 Van to restore soon and will take onboard yours and other peoples ideas to make a conbination of the best methods.

Can anyone tell me how much a completely bare shell actually weighs and what is the minimum height the centre pole needs to be so it rotates clear of the floor??

Hi again,

Not sure of the weight of the shell but mine still has doors, glass and other bits still on it and is fine.

My pole is at 40 1\2 inches or 1030mm, which gives about six inch floor clearance when the sill is near to the floor. You could have less if you wanted, I set mine high as the next to go on it will be an Austin A35 2 door saloon which is a little taller.
