A bit more work done the last couple of days, I managed to peel the last of the inner sills out and clean off the remains of the floor extension piece.

I found a couple of curious triangular sheet metal pieces at the door corners, I'm thinking this is a "mk1/2 Wagon thing" and I should put them in the van when I convert it to this load floor. I dont think I will need them with the commercial style load floor.

Posted Image

After that I removed the crossmember and the floor sections along the toe board from the tunnel of my original car... and just could not resist offering it up to the wagon... what do you thing? Heh

I Will call m-machine tomorrow if I havent recieved the shipping quote by then, I really need to get the floors on their way. But untill they arrive I will have plenty to occupy myself with, there is still a few sections of the tunnel that need attention, and some triangle pieces to remove!

Untill Next time,
Chris

Hmm, it had to have been revinned at some point, Or had the front panel replaced, the front panel is definitely a mk2/3 item., The holes for the later style grill trim are stamped and not drilled. Doesn't make much difference though it's still being modified beyond recognition heh :)

Oh and just because I can't seem to go out there without messing with things...

Posted Image

Oh, Hey lance, did you sell those tinny side frames? Been thinking of leaving the sides as is for a while as I collect the other pickup bed pieces. And might just toss some plexiglass sides in the window holes for a while.

I know what you mean Hugh, makes me want to live on the other side of the pond! D:

I will probably work out a deal for those window frames later Lance, I do need to do the floor first though... For obvious reasons!

Just a quicky, got the panels ready for the trip up John. When trying to remove the center of the crossmember I ended up putting another couple of slits in the bulkhead. It should be nothing to weld those up. I also welded a bar between the ends of the the crossmember so the subframe mounts should not move in relation to each other. Talk to you later.

Quickie update, order placed with M-Machine;
left and right saloon length bare floor pans
left and right saloon/wagon heelboard repair ends with subframe mount brackets
left and right van/pickup inner sill stiffener
heritage garages lwb floor extension
one van/pickup subframe closing panel that I will use as a pattern to make a second... the van's closing panels are butchered bad for copying
left and right half moon closing panel segment... as I hate trying to make curved things :ermm:

This should be enough to put floors in that wagon...or pup..err or whatever that rusty thing is on my spit lol

Waiting is torture!

Just got a reply over on the cooper forum over approximate dating on the FE number still attached over the radiator shroud.

FE1223885 dates to around February 1968.

Which would mean some time in the past it had that vin plate attached to it. It should be an early mk2

Now... Does that really make much difference in the overall scheme of things? Plan is to turn it into a pickup. But rarity wise, how rare is a mk2 steel sided estate? Not that I have anything but a bare shell mind you and a bare shell that is in horrible shape I personally would rather build it into a pickup myself.

Chris I hope the carriage cost is not too outrageous to get these panels over the Atlantic!! M Machine would be as helpful as they could. I once paid to have a rack for my motorbike sent the other way over the water. It cost more for the carriage!! A good new year to you. Hope you don't have to wait too long.

Well quoted delivery cost is £165 which shouldn't be that bad, overall price should come to around $615 or so, about £400 roughly. And a good happy new year to you to Hugh :) Thanks to a recent post I have dug through old photos to come up with a few pictures of my car from days gone by.

In 95 I had just gotten it and mom wanted to take a picture of me with it, she told me to sit on it.... so I did. She used it as the Christmas cards that year!
Posted Image

It looked like this in about August of the next year in '96, after we had welded a new front end on.
Posted Image

I drug it to Nebraska and back and it sat for several years, had driven it a fair amount, then in 2005 Someone working at a coffee shop on my way to work started driving a mk3+ mini to work so I got the urge to try to get it going again, this is as I am digging it out of storage, wirebrushing, and applying more red oxide and peeling the hideous destructive fiberglass off the floor..
Posted Image

That was likely the best it had ever looked since I owned it...
Posted Image

until a wheel bearing disintegrated.. I should have replaced it, but I was trying to come up with disk brake parts and didnt want to replace wheelbearings twice :(
Posted Image

Then we come full circle to the start of this thread.
Posted Image

That is over 15 years of a car that in all rights was not worth repairing in the first place... floors were gone both quarters were beat up the lower rear panel was destroyed, had accident damage on the right side....

Posted Image

Someday I will have a shiny one...
