Hi Chris that floor is looking great now. Its amazing what a bit of primer does! Hope you can get your panels soon.

All the best - Hugh

But but we already have a REAL jeep, we don't need a tiny plastic one Lance! And thank you Hugh, it does indeed a little primer helps.. lack of massive holes even more so! ;)

I did some more work on the project today, I finished up a set of hinge mounts on my jig so I could cut out the a panel. The inner a-panel was more complete but still needs replaced.

Posted Image

So I cut it all out and... the flitch looks just as bad as the other side :P

Posted Image

So I basically did almost the same repairs as the other side.

Posted Image

I have to say, looking at both lower flitches, I like what I am seeing...

It's been a few days, I haven't been doing much Mini wise however Brandon came over and helped me switch the saloon shell onto the spit so I can do some floor repairs on it. I found out a contributing factor to why the floor rotted where it did, the sand was not fully removed when it was sand blasted and it had collected moisture.

Posted Image

Laying absolutely flat after rolling it over I had almost half inch of sand on the crossmember I was able to put my index finger in to the first knuckle deep.

Posted Image

While cleaning out the sand with a shop vac the shell rotated around I had a rock fall out...

Posted Image

Sandstone! Along with a stripe of black under the shell...

I cleaned it out and am going to have to do a fair amount of metal replacement But I figured I would have to :)

Chris

P.S. I may be getting something else.. I am a glutton for punishment!

1967 UK Built LHD Mini Moke. It's going to cost a bit but well worth it.. and.. MORE RUST TO REPAIR!! Wheeee!

Posted Image

Best thing is it's possibly the most complete mini I have purchased, and the engine runs!... Unfortunately the brakes and clutch hydraulics do not lol.

I plan to fix the serious rust for now and then fix the hydraulics to drive it this summer, Then pull it apart this winter for better body massaging if everything works out.

I think you need to immediately reduce the number of projects you have. I would suggest the first project to do away with is the Moke. I will send you an address (mine) where you can send it. :)

Well it looks like you may be correct in reducing the number of projects.. the guy after saying he would take a deposit.. has started flaking out when I went to send him the deposit. Bah.

I worked a bit more on the 60 shell last night, I made some templatesfor the repairs that were needed and did some cleaning and welding.

The troubles over the moke have me somewhat annoyed.

Some more pics, built the outer edge of the outer sill and then plated the back of it, made it in two parts so I wouldn't have to bend the curve into it. I cut out more of the outer sill in front so I could get to the front inner sill drain and knock the seam sealer out of it. Honestly, how do you expect a car to drain when you plug up all the drains they have engineered into the body!? While the metal treatment worked I cut out more of the floor under the crossmember so I could treat it. I only found a couple more pin holes I will weld up, I welded the floor edges directly to the crossmember and I will weld the floor piece to them.

Oh yeah, I also finally welded the rear seat stay bottom... it's about time!

Wish I had the room for more to be honest, but that moke does look blessed with the brown stuff !!! Nice work as usual on the mini though.

Hi, I had the shell sand blasted. When I got it back I went after it with an air hose. I blew air in every hole untill sand stopped coming out.
I thought ai got all the sand out.
Guess not. :shy:
What I would do differently is, I would cut two holes, one on each end of the crossmember. Then blow and vacuume the sand out. Also I would spray something to protect the metal on the inside of the crossmember.
Minde you, I had the shell inside all the time I had it. And I don't know what happend to it between when I last saw it and Chris got it. The floor shure got bent up, and it got a lot of rust on it.
Good job on repairing it. ;D
