I would imagine its all in the well known "Vizard bible", I dont have one myself but I can tell you that Des Hammill covers it in great detail in"The 1275cc A-Series High- Performance Manual". One big advantage is that you can get alot of the pages on your computer whereas you cant fom Vizard's-or I cant any way.I ended up getting a used Hammill book from Amazon for£5. I wouldnt agree with his ideas on tools to use but the info is extremely good and should be enough for anyone. There is an "Evolution" mains die grinder available for just over £100 if you look about and its fine

would i be better off just widening the exterior inlet port to make it level with the manifold so its easier for the fuel and air mix to pass into the head with out going over the 'bump' if you like?

make all the external ports the same diameter as the gasket.

you will also be better off porting out the valve throat aswell, you will also need to go deep into the head, and make the flow of the head a lot better.

be careful not to go to far though and rip into a water jacket.

diy head porting dont really work that well, best getting a pro to do it.

Go to the library and borrow Vizzard's How to Tune the A-Series Engine. It's all explained in there. Most libraries have it.

ive done a few heads, not opening ports up massively, just tidying them up a bit, i used a dremel, kept it moving, didnt leave it grinding in one place, and took my time.

Yeah I did mine with a dremel too.

It worked really well but like Samsernie says, just have to take it slow. The grinding stones work well on the cast iron head. Not so well on a die cast aluminium intake manifold. They tend to clog up... I find the little belt sander attachments work best on them.

Also if you have a spare head to practice on thats always useful to work out how far you can go before you hit a water jacket!
