By the way! Here are some pics from Nottingham Car Cafe on saturday morning :)

Here are some dudes having a nose around my car (I pretended it wasn't mine and hung around to try and overhear what they were saying. Mostly positive comments!)

In good company with a Lancia Montecarlo from the same year and a couple of Ferraris :)

Here's a photo I found on facebook taken by someone else of me driving out of the place trying to look cool while my car was making all kinds of rubbing noises.

I have now done 100 miles since the engine rebuild, so next job is an oil change and tighten everything up again, and then think about getting a proper rolling road setup.

Neil you were absolutely right as usual! I just had a look under the lip of the wheel arches and sure enough they are black with tire rubber. Oops!

I really didn’t expect the car to be rolling around enough to close that gap but apparently it is. What’s the answer? Either raise up the hi los or fit stiffer dampers I guess. Currently have the bog standard cheapo kyb ones on. Hmmmm.....

Whilst over from Northern Ireland last weekend for the nec classic car show I went to the festival of remembrance service at Alrewas, did I see you drive past in convoy? Well more of a crawl as the traffic jam waiting for the park and ride was really bad. If it was you, not many T registered Clubmans in antelope, the car looked lovely and a real credit to you, well done,

Yes it was me!

Thanks very much! I'm glad I went along even though it rained, and we ended up parking in the muddy park and ride field. Anyway, it was all about paying respects rather than then minis, but super nice to be spotted :)

I really should update this thread!

The horrible noise coming from under the car turned out to be that I'd put the front wheel bearings on the wrong way around! Will post pics of the latest adventures with the car in a bit!

The problem is Rich the width of the wheels you have, no matter what you do there they are too wide without tubbing at the back and arches. Even if you raised the height with the Hi Los you will either look like a 4 x 4 or a seventies custom car, all jacked up at the back.

Have you spacered the rears by chance??

I wished I'd tubbed my clubman when I was working on the bodywork. I have green spot doughnuts and Spax adjustables and whenever the whole family goes for a run then I have to lift her up a bit at the back on the hi-lo's and screw up the dampers by a couple of clicks. I did fit my grp 2 arches so that at the top of the arch then they're a little bit lower than the actual arch so it doesn't look too bad. When there's no more than two in the car or three if my lightweight youngest son comes as well then she's usually ok. I plan to repaint her in the next couple of years so tubbing is on the to do list!

No major changes to the car in all this time, but lots of little improvements and fixes which I will post about next :)

Looks great, especially looking back to the beginning of this project thread to see what you started off with. Well done.

Hello Rich2,

First time i've put a post up on this thread. Been using it as inspiration for the last couple of years and also a bit of a go to guide for doing my 88' city. Unfortunately I'm not as far as I would of liked to have been (still on the rear end where I started) but I've got a reasonable plan together now and feeling more pumped.

I would first of all like to say how fantastic the thread has been and how stunning the car looks, you've done an amazing job.

Seeing as I'm going through a similar process to you (only 10 years on), I would love to hear if there was anything you would of done differently. I would also be super interested to hear how that POR15 has lasted the years you have been driving it ? I've bought a pot, planning to use it this weekend on some shot blasted parts so keen to know if its held up well !

Thanks,

James.

Ive had some por15 on for about 5 years and its still holding up well.  IT REALLY NEEDS the surfaces to be clean and runs very easily.  The pot has some kind of strange double lip on it that when you try to reopen it again after a few months its a real pain in the hole.  Have heard stories that it discolours in bright sunlight but not sen that myself.
