Hi
Haynes recommends that a jointing compound is used when fitting a water pump. I have never used any jointing compound with a gasket in a car before. I have some Plumber's Mait already - will this do, or is there something more specifically suited to this task that I should use?
Thanks
Luke

just go into your local auto store and ask for non setting gasket sealent, a good type is Hylomar, blue looking stuff and often found works well. They will all do pretty much the same job thought what ever the name

I used a bit, not a lot of Hylomar Blue...
I have no idea what properties Plumbers Mait has... but I'd use something that's made for cars!

Just lightly smear either side of the gasket with regular grease, that will seal it up fine.

as above i use normal car grease. Also good to hold gaskets in place when fitting other parts too

Hylomar Blue for me. Just the faintest smear on either side of the gasket.
