hi guys
bought a car that came with another very odd engine.
as usual the engine number plate is missing and the only numbers that i found are as follow:

head 12g295 with double springs
block 12a497 rwc 23758/30a

it should be a standard 998, but it came with some strange apendixes:

Im pretty sure that the 12g295 head is the head of choice for the small bore originally from the cooper 998, so thumbs up for that one. As for the block i think its a standard 998 block

thanks

Steve

That is a 998 Cooper head casting and they look like D top (raised crown) 998 Cooper pistons.

Can't remember whether the 1000 tag means it's a Cooper block, not sure there's much difference in the basic block anyway, the pistons and cam are the difference in the short engine.

Manifold is a standard combined exhaust and inlet for the single carb.

Has a mechanical fuel pump whereas a Cooper would have had an electric pump under the rear subframe.

it has no casting number, only the one on the last pic.
what does this mean?

998 cooper, the most important bits are there being the pistons and head, everything else is common with any other A series 998...

however the gearbox is wrong for a 998 cooper as it would of had a remote box.
