Good evening everyone, thought i'd make a start and put up a post on my lastest project, my mate Bertie was selling his unfinised project and after a few beers a deal struck(Bertie drives a hard bargin) after shelling out a mind blowing £50, with a little help from another mate (Dave) the car arrived home

Bertie had already cut the roof off, removed the rear bins cut the rear seat then cut the car in half and removed 18 1/4 inches from the wheel base and welded it all back together thats how the car turned up

I've lost the pictures up to this stage

The first job on the car was to stiffen the shell by putting back all the lost strength

i'll post more of the build later........ just a quickie to see what it looks like now

After installing all the box section down both sides, i've fabricated and installed box section across the inside heel board, more strengthing to follow

at this point a quick look over of the shortie revealed a new front end needed, new rear valance and two or three patches in the boot oh and a boot lid

waiting at the back of the shed two front wings and mk1 boot lid......... bonus

Oh at this point it worth mentioning this project will be built with two things in mind, safety and cost, i will not skimp on safety and i will not throw money at this project, i'm going to complete this build with out a second mortgage

check out the mods to the bonnet that came with the car it was totally shot.

Looking cool! I used to have a shorty, but it was much shorter than that. Would say that's a limo shorty... Certainly will be different! Good luck :P

Wicked been ages since ive seen a shortie project :) and this ones great :mmkay: keep up the good work and the photos coming, oo ooo just once suggestion before you get near paint, in your first photo it shows the new section where the door used to be, down on the floor/inner sill i would used the cross beam and weld it in length ways on drivers and passengers side just adds strength and redigity :P

Hi Pitcrew6464, Thanks for comments thats the sort of encouragement we all need to keep going thanks mate.

The seat crossmember has been replaced and also 25x25mm box has been run all along the floor up against the heel board, where the rear seat has been cut back, 25x25mm box welded in under the seat, both of these connected to each other and each section (either side of tunnel) trianglated also a new box section/seat crossmember added to (A) support rear of seat (B) add more strength, the front end of the roof/apron is welded to the top of the steelwork running down the sides of the car, again this a triangulated set up then the roll hoops connected through the roof/apron

God i hope that makes sense

Colin
