basically, i havent got a spanner in my tool box that fits ny nuts or locknuts

ive come to the conclusion the front subframe fixing locknut is 1"

but unsure of the brake pipe fitting, and the nut on the brake pipe itself, it seems a little larger than 17mm

and the spanner for the bleed nipple too

You need flare nut spanners really.

Not 1" ............ 15/16" AF for the large lock nut, and pipe flare spanner size for the pipe ends is 7/16" AF or possibly 3/8" AF if you have the cheap Indian ones :ermm:

And stop using metric tools on your Mini! I've seen two threads today where you mentioned it, they really aren't the same you know. Even if you don't damage all the fixings on the car, you'll almost certainly damage your knuckles.

thanks guys, me and a mate managed to do most of it today when he bought tools round, but the front passengers side hose to pipe join on the subframe is so stubborn it looks like its going to have to be cut off and a new nut made onto the brake pipe o.O

and i know this dan, but desperate times mean desperate measures sometimes, and ive managed to keep all my knuckles as of this far :ermm:

cut flared bit off the brake pipe, put a new nut on and reflare the end. (if im correct in thinking this should work)

IF i have suffiecent clearance to do so, ill find out when i try, if not itll have to be a new brake pipe from the other side

Before you get happy with the cutters, make sure your flaring tool is up to it. The factory brake lines are steel, not Kunifer. They are a lot harder to flare properly, cheap tools may not do the job.

thanks for letting me know dan, pretty sure my brake lines have been replaced before as anything ive inspected are the copper ones, i have a few people i know with a good flaring tool anyhow, so even if the line happens to be steel i should hopefully still be okay, fingers crossed eh
