Hey, I have an '86 Rover mini, 998 but with an HIF 44 carb and when I let off the accelerator, it gets stuck down a bit. When pressing it with the engine off, I can here the metal throttle cable scraping the sides of the hole it goes through in the firewall, and I have no idea why its doing this, cause it can't be normal.
Any answers or advice? it would help out so much.
Thanks!
Chris

Have an investigate. The cable slots in to the top of the pedal with a spring clip over the top to keep it in place, you could hold the throttle open with a spanner to create enough slack in the cable.
Sometimes a poor engine earth results in earth making its way back to the battery via the carb cables which can weld them to the sleeve.

Get a second body in there to operate the pedal while you have a nosey around the bulkhead

yeah me and my dad tried a little trick which involved putting a straw around the cable and then put the straw into the little tunnel that the cable goes through, and also gave it a lick of grease on it. It worked absolutely fine for half the day, then on the way back home it went back to getting stuck on a little so the engine would rev up each time before shifting=[ it was kind of embarassing with all the other cars around. haha

Oh how I wish that would work. The thing is, it IS a brand new cable. Maybe a month old AND I just got it registered and on the road, so it hasn't had much wear and tear at all.
