Did you do the pools or something way back then???????????

I guess we all did back then. When I bought a new Cortina GT in 1966 I won my class on an autocross when it was 6-weeks old.

No, but I worked as a design engineer in the aerospace industry, my wife worked as a senior secretary and we had no kids. There really was no unemployment for qualified or skilled engineers back then and companies would pay well for contract workers who were self-employed with the tax advantages that brought, if you see what I mean. They were great days too.

That's a great looking Mini and does appear very well prepared.
Where & when did your dad rally as I might well know him?

he rallied mid 70's. he was in this for a little while and then got rid of the mini ( sold it to my uncle) because he didnt like the lack of ground height, then he went on to buy an opel cadett, red and white. did small night rallys round the cambridgshire area. air bases, forest runs ect. did it for a couple of years and then went on to production saloon and touring cars for alfa romeo. he was quite successful in both rallying and track, regularly beating the bigger BDG engines escorts with his little kadett :)

il have to fish out a pic of the opel

edit: found one!

Ask him if he knows or remembers me - Pete Valentine.
In the mid-70's I was rallying as a co-driver in a Datsun 240Z with a guy named Kevin Videan. I also did some East Anglian rallies with Geoff Lobb in an Opel Ascone & Opel Kadett.
Those were the days!

Here is an old photo. It's of John Aley's racing Mini, the white one, pictured at a Snetterton race meeting in March 1962 with a very well-known rally Mini alongdide - 16BOJ which was a 'works' prepared car and in which I did many events. The owner of 16BOJ is on the left and the guy in the flying jacket is Ian Richardson who raced in many different cars. Interestingly, the young lady, whom I had not met at that time, later became my first wife.
