im looking at embarking on a 4age conversion. but i want to get as much info as i can on the process before i commit.
I was wondering if you NEED to alter the track width when doing it?
Im not a huge fan of cutting up a car like a mini so im wondering just how much i would need to cut out to get it in the car? im thinking just the inner guards?
um and yeh has anyone else got any feedback on what this kind of conversion is like?
Thanks Blake

The 4age is a fantastic engine, I had an mr2 which I have all of the running gear, engine, box, shafts, wiring, ecu etc... from still if you are interested?

I dont think you need to extend the front. They seem to have a rather big gearbox and thats what makes them so wide.

This WILL go in a std length round nose if you make a custom inlet and exhaust
The biggest problem with this converison is the gearbox size when using a modded mini subframe, if i was do it it again i would use a metro frame

thanks for posting that. looks good! It looks pretty much the same as my car. Mines white with the black bonnet
so was it worth the effort? in Australia the 4efte seems like the preference but i like n/a engines so i thought the 4age would be the way to go.
what is the problem with the gearbox and the modded mini subframe? I would be using the mini subframe as im not sure how hard it would be to source the metro subframe in aus.
Are there any tips or hints in doing this conversion?
Thankyou
Blake

You will see just how big the box is, basicly mounted so it nearly touches the steering rack, the box at the from nearly hits the bottom of the slam panel
Personally i would use a smaller engine in a future conversion, by the time you have had to make a custom inlet and exhaust, possibly robbing it of power you would be better fitting a smaller unit.
That said, i would use a frame from a metro modded like this

And for the inlet i would just use elbows at 90deg then fit throttle bodies.
Also i wouldnt try and fit it in a round nose, i would use a clubman so i could fit the biggest radiator i could

Do you know what kind of power your car was making? mmmm i like the idea of the 1.6ltr and because i was going turbo i didnt want to go much smaller. Someone did mention using a 5efe because its the same size as the 4efte.
Yeh im using a clubman.
So is it worth me actually attempting this conversion or should i really be looking elsewhere?

So is t only the gearbox that makes it awkward to install? Or do the manifold really make it a big problem?

I think the conversion is on par with any other, and a lot will come down to how much you want to mod your car, if you were happy with a baulkhead box you could use the standard manifolds
I think the 5efe is taller or is that the 5age? i get confused i do know you can create a 7age i think they call it where you take the bottom end from one and the top from another. But i think they will be too big for a mini
The engine in mine would have been around 120-130 depending on if my inlet had robbed or given it more power! I never had it rolling roaded to find out.
Plus points with the 4age, the wiring is simple and neat to install the factory fuel injection, its also a very early fuel injection that DOESNT have a lamba sensor, leaving you with a potentiomiter (spelling?) for your fueling.
We did the whole conversion for next to noting so i do think its value for money, would i do another? well that empty frame in the other picks may well get a 4age!

lol yeh i get a little confused with it all to.
ok oh well if i do do the conversion im going to fully build the motor before it goes in so im hoping that i can get a fair bit of power out of it.
cool well if the wiring is easy that makes me happy as the wiring is the part im most scared off with the conversion.
lol so i take it, it was worth it then if your considering doing it again
