hello guys, i was wondering if anybody here has had experience of both a kent 286 and a swiftune sw10? swiftune say that its basically the same came but slightly different. The thing is i dont want to run a milder cam than a 286 but the price of a billet kent compared to swiftune billet sw10 is quite a good saving! if anybody can say if there anygood or noticable differences are id be very greatfull

cheers chris

Well the SW-10 is meant to be better on emissions than the 286

Cheers yes i know that, iv read that of there web site too. Emissions dont really concern me as its only a visual check on the mot. Its more the power produced im interested in and if anybody out there has compared the two. iv used 286 cams for most of my engines and its a very good fast road cam but im interested in trying this swiftune sw10 cam as its more competitively priced however i dont want anything milder than a kent 286

all right just saying..

From minifinity ( http://www.minifinit...i...f=5&t=10708 )

'SW10 - This is what i'm currently running.. Smoother than a 649 with around the same predictable power... A damn good modern alternative to the old 649. [||||||||||] '
(It was in the red font and the 286 was in purple, indicating the SW10 is infact wilder than the 286)

I DID NOT WRITE THIS

(P.S. I have an SW10....)

Ahhh....cant tell you that!! as engines not in at the moment! its an insane smallbore spec that will probably last all of about 500 miles!

I'm confused why would the swiftune cam be cheaper, Kent make them any way! they designed the cam years ago so development cost would have easily been covered, so that makes me wonder if the quality will be as good. but I guess it's just Kent cashing in.

I would also love to know if the SW10 really is a good as they make out it is... If it is I may just add one to my 1380 this winter when I swap to the twins.

are you sure kent make them? (ps liirge, ahhh right no probs) well i priced up a kent billet 286 scatter cam and they wanted £175ish cant remember if that was inclusive of vat and swiftunes billet cams are £135 inclusive of the vodka and tonic.. so it makes a cheaper alternative. Plus they seem to be getting some seriously good press at the mo and seem to be supplying good products. However it does make you think that if there cheaper there this for a reason.. pershaps there using cheaper lower grade steel and are able to sell them cheaper or kent are upping there price just because there kent. either way a billet cam are supposed to last longer due to the quality.. but if swiftunes cams are not as good its better to pay that bit extra i guess.. bolloxs i cant make my mind up... haha

ive got one in my new engine, i havent got it in the car yet, but from what the guys at swifttune were telling me, it idles smoother and is more efficient on idle than the 286, but has similar characteristics, they wouldnt tell me the duration or timing figures though, "their a close guarded company secret" *melons*, lol

Don't think I would want to fit a cam for which I didn't have the full specification.
I've always used Kent cams and the 286 is and always has been one of the finest cams available for rallying. I don't use the SP as not convinced it gives any overall advantage in a properly built and assembled engine on twin 1.5" SU's.

looking at the figs the 286 seems the better cam, (but I know the figs can only tell you so much)

no idea,i was unaware there was 2 types of sw10 cams,
These figure were taken by AC Dodd,
so i presume by 07 you reffering to year and they may have changed it since then?
