true, but i am well aware of the sapce in the footwell. just seems an odd place to have the speakers

Honestly though, for distances thats the best place you can put them.
The only solution for the tweeters so far trying to keep it all at the same distance is the middle of the dash.
Although the stereo imaging is lost and drags in the sound stage.

Not quite true Sam.
The tweeters can go in the bottom corner of where it meets the dash and angle them towards the centre of the dash. This gives a decent sound stage and imaging.
