Imagine if the control cct for the lecky fan failed or indeed the fan itself, No cooling at all!!!

Sooo... . Just like if the fan belt snapped?

yes it might fail, but then, so might alot of other things... thats the chance you take with owning a car.
anyway, motorbike fan... small, light and moves alot of air.. its the future..

Yep just like if the fan belt snapped....But the point I was trying to make is that if you remove the mechanical fan in favor of an electric one you are then relying on thermostatic control and/or a manual overide switch. And a dc motor. More things to go wrong. I fitted the lecky fan, and used a relay to switch it on automaticaly when things get a bit warm, but i also have a switch in the car in case the relay fails. Also the electric fan is quite noisy so I would not want it on as my only form of cooling. But hey, its only my opinion. By the way I recon a mini corners better than a motorbike. 4 wheels on the ground instead of two. Mini ownership........ its the past.......the present.......and the future....

lmao i dont think he meant he was a motorbike fan, ie a fan of motorcycles,
more like motorbike fans are very good at cooling and appear to be the future.
:)

Am I right in thinking you want rid of the mechanical fan in favour of a lecky one? I only say this as you say you want to eliminate the fan runing constantly. This I think would be a bad idea!! Imagine if the control cct for the lecky fan failed or indeed the fan itself, No cooling at all!!! I think your best option is to keep the mechanical fan and add a lecky fan under the front wing, controled either thermostaticaly or via a switch in the car.

Andy

Yeah I want to do away with the mechanical fan completely and just solely run and electric one. The mechanical fan does nothing when the car is moving above 30mph, the car is cooled by the air running through the grill, so I don't see any need to keep this fan when its doing nothing both once the car is moving, and when its stationary.

Ok up to you really!! Consider an extra cooling device in that case. Heater matrix behind the grill maybe?? My lecky fan is really quite noisy and im not sure i would want it on continuously in town trafic. But thats just me.

Which lecy fan are you running? The noise doesn't really bother me to be honest, car's running a weber and S/C box so I'm kinda used to it :D

Its the one that came off the MG metro doner. Are they more noisy than others?

More than likely yes, most of the modern day fan's are pretty much near silent running.
