can you not take the old box off and make something to bolt on to the carb?? i just see a big surface area of the old box getting hotter then if you just have a pipe to the carb like newer card have right to the TB

like this i would say is better

I was considering this a while back. If i remove the standard airbox and filter, and instead fabricate something that bolts directly to the carb's air inlet, like mattwho has suggested, will this increase responsiveness in a 998?

I read something a while back suggesting induction kits only benefitted larger bore and more powerful engines, putting an induction kit on a small bore was negligible.

it shouldnt be to difficult to knock something up that will fit onto the standard air box elbow, even a modified elbow that you can bolt upsidedown to the exsisting elbow with a gasket on it, then knock up a bracket that you can attach a induction pipe onto that is fed through an aftermarket airfilter thats positioned at the front of the engine.....?

Wait now i'm confused, my mechanical knowledge is limited so bear with me. The induction pipe would connect to the inlet located just behind an SU carb, where the airbox would connect to?

thats correct, my idea is to take another "elbow", turn it upsidedown, rotate it 180degrees so the opening is facing the bulk head, somehow modifiy it to clamp down onto the "elbow" already fitted to the su carb, then run a pipe from that, to the front of the car with mabe a k&n style filter on the end, so you get nice cold filtered air straight to the carb.... if you get what i mean?

I think i get it, yeah :D . I'd like to try my hand at building this, i'd like to see the effect it would have on a 998 engine.

Why dont you just use a turbo plenumn and pipe it to the front, will be much better, it doesnt HAVE to be attatched to a turbo. :(

Where is everything hidden in that engine bay?? Mine is chock-a-clock with screen wash, brake fluid pot and a shed load of other bits and bobs.

That is a ruddy cool intake though.
