Rover Mini Cooper 1275cc 1999

I am being thick I suspect but my alarm system and immobilizer appear to work but the alarm light does not flash when it is armed.

So the simplest thing is that the bulb has gone? OK so how I get to the thing without having to take the dashboard out? What bulb do I use to replace it etc. etc.

Any help will be most appreciated as I have got through my Mini Workshop CD and my Owners handbook without success!

Regards,

Brian

O.K, first off the alarm doesn't have a bulb it has an l.e.d which should last forever, the only reason why it would fail would be if it got overloaded with current, in which case it would have burnt out so you should have seen it glow really bright for about 5 seconds or so. Now I doubt this would have happened but to get at it to replace it you ideally wann take the dash out but if your doing that then you might aswell look for a loose connection first. Now if it has actually burnt out then you wann look at why it did it because as soon as you replace it (which by the way will require some soldering) it will burn again.

Hope this is of help

This should help you find a relacment if you need one, you dont have to go for red but the mulit coloured ones won't work.

Thank you for your help. It put my head in the right gear!

So I looked carefully at the LED ( or lack of LED ) and checked to see that it was actuallt there! Gues what, it had come out of its mounting. So out came the radio and its "tin can" which it is mounted. There I found a flashing red light ( the LED )! Trouble was te bulb for the clock and the LED for the battery condition gauge were also hanging down. Clearly changing the radio to the latest one had disturbed the wiring to the gauges and the anti-theft LED.

I have found out how to take the dashboard out at least enough to put everthing back together.

How on earth do you get to the not securing the O/S side of the dashboard? Minis are great but absolutely maddening! I never intended to be a car mechanic now I am a "pensioner"! We live in Scitland and use the "bus pass" as much as possible!

Thanks everso for your replies! I am going through the restoration bit a bit at a time. Next week is the O/S door skin, sill and the plating of the rust on the bottom of the rear panel under the rear side window. Fun and games with decals! Finding a garage to do these thing is a pain and expensive! Last year was the same on the other side!

Next year is the rust below the windscreen and around the seams below the headlights!

All sounds very familiar!

Good luck with the restoration. I believe you have to take out the eyeball airvent in order to access it, all you do is unscrew the facia of the vent and it should pop right out.
