I'm going to tidy the bay up this week. Got loads of bits from Smiffy to fit and I'm cracking the paint out too.

Edit:

Himley's purchases!

Bonnet seal, DSN sandwich plate, smiffys stickers, de-cat pipe, wind deflectors and an AMAZING mini glass biscuit barrel!!

I've always hated how naff the engine bay looks, so over the last fortnight, I've done something about it.

Hopefully this will inspire others to do the same! Its easy, just takes time and patience.

This is how it looked before I changed the head, and I had a failed attempt at using engine gunk:

When it's this bad, engine gunk just isn't worth it. Thinks get cleaner, but not better. Just look at that bulkhead! Everything's just a mess:

On Monday, I dropped the grill off, and removed the spots and fogs. It's also important to bag and tag everything you take off. Even if you know what you're doing:

I then took the time to get as much oil and rust and gunk off the block as possible:

I also took out the bulkhead foam as it looked awful, trapped water and did nothing for sound deadening whatsoever:

Then I got busy with the newspaper:

There's not much block left!

Fan cowling painted. Shiny! I love a reflection in gloss paint:

Block’s now dry, so I’ve unmasked it all and painted the little bits. Alternator bracket:

Second coat on the oil filter pipe:

After all these years, the alternator looks a bit worse for wear:

But I’ve been using a sponge with a scowerer on. Tough enough to loosen the grime, but not as aggressive as sand paper:

Same level of grime on the bell housing. You can see where I scrubbed quickly:

And after a light scrub:
