Can i ask how much the bike cost in the beginning, and how much the overall project cost?

Love the look, although can't say im keen on the forks, little less angle would be better imo

After a fixie myself but don't want to spend much!

happy riding :P

Hi there,

Me again :closed: I'll put up the spec of mine and the pictures later..

@Jack you definately want a fixie ! you get so much control, I'm currently running without a front brake and you can just speed up slow down and stop with ease. I'l fit the front brake for the emergency stops etc.. I tried to coast last night.. Wasn't happening :dozing:

@Barker - How much are you looking to spend? I've spent.. about 100 on mine but thats because i bought lots of random expensive bits from ebay :P and my wheel set cost 60 quid because I wanted a 'flip flop' hub. :)

Timtom, you don't mess about dude! Come on, get these pictures/spec up

Can i ask what wheelset you went for? I'm struggling to find some decent yet low price set!

Defo going for a flip flop hub now, and seeing as so many people ride fixed it seems i'll be joining them!

:) dude, you've done an awesome job of that!

This is with the coaster hub isn't it, how did you find it? Really can't make my mind up weather to use a flipflop with a fixed and freewheel or coaster hub :w00t:

what are those little stickers on the mid seat post?

Oh, & have fun on the holiday!

alright boys! back in Pompey now so can answer your questions... I find the coaster hub with back pedal brake pretty simple and easy to use, i like coasting too much to change to fixed. as for flipflop hubs i've never ridden them... Timtom, could you explain???

The stickers up the seat post from the bottom upwards are Bored of Southsea - local skateshop, King Noir - kickass t-shirts, Carhartt - also kickass threads, and at the top the orange 'Southsea Bronx' smiley sun - also from Bored... pretty much the southsea scene sticker!

Timtom glad your up and running dude but like jack said... where those pics at??? ;) you're from around my way aren't you? fancy a ride on pompey seafront some time? i'd like to try the flipflop hub if i can be cheeky! same to you jack... want to trek down? haha hows yours comin dude???

im back at uni now so riding in on the bike everyday. its a breeze compared to the walk but im finding my thighs are pretty out of it at the end of the day! :P

Barker, i bought the complete bike for 82quid in a pretty sound state but wasn't to my tastes so i have spent a little more *cough* than i had intended. because i bought a lot of my stuff new and from overseas i've spent around 300 getting it to where it is now, including the ball-ache i've had with the bottom bracket!
only intended on spending about a hundred on it but it gets away with you and mine took so long to finish i spread the cost over about 3 months.

the most expensive things were the wheels as i had the rims shipped from china and the spokes weren't cheap so they came in fully built at around the 175 mark :w00t: then the powdercoating was 50 and the rest of the bits took the rest of the dolla... hope this helps... if i were you don't try and build your wheels from scratch, buy a readymade wheelset - much much cheaper!

live and learn! :w00t:

Pics to follow in 5..

@Jack - The rims i purchased are 'Omega Mach 1' rims with a flip flop hub, built up and bought for 60 on ebay. (search for '700c track rim' and you should find them, i looked at a few reviews and they are budget and good but not amazing.. they don't look as sweet as Ajperry's though!! :P

@Ajperry - Flip flop hubs are called that because they are double sided track hubs. - One side you fit a fixed sprocket by screwing it on and onto that you have a thread thats slight smaller that is left hand.. so the lockring tightens and it holds the fixed sprocket on (so you can pedal backwards without the sprocket undoing!)

- I am from round here ! i'm just up the A3 a small bit, defo up for a cycle round the seafront sometime, need to lose some of the weight first so i don't look so ridiculous ;)

P.s.. Expensive rims ! i don't have such funds alas :)

Easy man Enjoyed the holiday?

I'd love a ride with you guys, but one thing.. you're both miles away! Maybe sometime in the future we can meet up though i'd deffo be up for that!

Been playing with mine a bit- got all the brake holes welded up and dressed finally. Worked on the bottom bracket tube too, found out it was pretty rusted/pitted so ended up hardfacing it with weld and grinding it smooooth.

Went to buy some primer t'other day for it because its pretty much ready for paint after a slight bit of prep but got denied because im 'underage'. Fair point but what the hell am i going to graffiti with primer! I'll get some picked up this weekend when the 'rents are back!

Interesting set up on that Timtom! The stem looks HUGE ;) proper bright colors too!

Found a cheap wheelset with deep v's that i'm tempted by. Probably shoddy quality but a wheel is a wheel at the end of the day! Probably the highest thing i'll be going off its a curb and i'm pretty sure i wont be trying that many tricks on it :P

AJperry.. To actually answer your question regarding 'flip flop' hubs.. I Seem to go off on a tangent :proud:

One side has a fixed gear hub and one side just a normal screw on freewheel hub (you would have to fit a freewheel sprocket though) and you just flip the wheel over to change sprocket.

cool cool, sounds like you at least get the option of changing to single speed instead of fixed if it doesn't suit.
i enjoyed my holiday massively although it was a uni fieldtrip so some work had to be done, but the villa and pool that me and mates got outweighed the work!
muchos relaxas!

by the way guys, ajp is my initials so jus call me 'Perry' :teehee:

and Tim that stem is massive, as Jack pointed out! are you part giant? hahaha

Hi all,

Your holiday sounded pretty sweet all the same Perry,

The stem is pretty long, i'm definately not small so it suits I think.. I need a stem to fit a fatter handlebar unfortunately so i hope I can find an equally big one..

Riding without a brake makes stopping less comfortable as i need to jump off to actually stop!

Evening all,

Still haven't done much more on mine, bought a few sanding wheels to finish the lugging off before paint, they're proving difficult to sand back without actually smoothing the edges off.

Just checked the blog, looks pretty awesome to me! Nice work dude, you should be proud!

Another website for you Tim-
