I would like to paint my fuel tank before it goes back into my 1960 Mini. it is part of the restoration. What is the best type of paint for this, considering in the boot it might be knocked by items which are being transported?
I have heard some people use powder coating, but I am affraid if I get the tank shot blasted, the large flat side which is visible may be damaged in the blasting process.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
John

What is the best type of paint for this?
i think black paint!!

powder coating would give the best look but if it chips its not easy to touch up
i did the tank in my car with a rattle can and a bit of laquer and it looks ok but as u'rs is in the mk 1 u might want a better result

If you build up the layers (I've been putting 4 coats on everything) then you should get a good finish on it.

Hi, I got this powder coated last week, and fitted it this weekend...piccies attachedI've got a mk1 also, and when I get to it I will be spraying the tank with the same paint as I am using on the suspension components, which is Hammerite satin finish black, in a spray can.
If you build up the layers (I've been putting 4 coats on everything) then you should get a good finish on it.
