So finally got out for a decent drive hit 70mph very quickly. Only problem is it pulling alot to the right under braking....buttt....i think setting up the tracking and camber will sort this niggle out
it is a great engine to drive

Check the hoses as these can collapse and block the fluid. You have a good pedal but basically there isnt much fluid going to the caliper.
Have you bled the brakes correctly? Might be worth having another go at them.
Hope you get sorted, great post. Good luck.

so took the car to the mot this morning and found it was fine until about half way there....the front brake started sticking again! clearly wd40'in the pistons was only a temp solution! So i turned round and spent an hour swapping back to my original brakes
less braking performance but at least it stops in a straight line!
So she passed!
Soo happy and soo great to drive now, just need to get my tracking castor and camber setup now to perfect it and find the niggles (the first of which was that my clutch pedal came up so much that i couldn't remove my foot from it due to my knee hitting the steering wheel )
Thanks for all advice and support so far

so glad you took the criticism on the welding so well and changed it, allot of people would have ignored the advice and carried on.
im very tempted to go down this route on one of the minis. possibly ditching the injection and going for some carbs, bit of research is in order
well done again

Your a star thank you.
Now trying to get the pics to appear within the pdf guide so I can print off and keep in the garage ready for the day.

so far the only thing that has broken is the alternator mount (belt stayed on though!)...this was simply not using long enough studs in the head (i had to space them somthing massive to get clearance to undo the oil cap!)....replaced with longer studs a while back and no problems since (also used split washers! so they dont shake loose again)
totally worth it...soo fast 0-60 happens in around 7-8 seconds but havn't really tested this....you can easily pull away in any gear...and 60-100 happens very very easily on a private road.
basically incredible!
