hi everyone, ive been offered a genuine 60's cooper s 1275 bored out to a 1310 with upgraded pistons etc. I was wondering how much something like this is worth and would it fit in my '89 998cc. Are the subframes the same? and the drive shafts? and is it worth doing?
Any advice/help would be appreciated. :P

I've just had a browse through the Big Yellow A Series Bible and, correct me if I'm wrong, but the 60s Cooper engine wasn't a 1275 variant.
The original Cooper started out as a 997cc engine, can't remember when the 1275 came in.
I'm sure someone will offer more information or tell you I'm taking cack.

if its a cooper S engine then it will be a A series 1275 with tappet covers on the back, the subby shold be hydrolastic if original (wet suspension), the drive shafts will also be different as they have hardy spicer joints at the gearbox end. But the engine is interchangeable with the later subframes and the drives shafts will fit the later 8.4 inch disk brake C.V's so it should be no problem to fit to you later mini.

it'll be worth a bit,

I sold an S crank on ebay a couple of years ago for over 300 quid, the rods are probably worth about 80-100, the block will probably go for 400 maybe more,

spider drive refers to the type of drive to the oil pump from the camshaft. genuine cooper S engines will be worth abit, but condition will determine the overall cost really.

If it is really a genuine Cooper S block, nitrided crank, etc in good or even rebuildable condition you would be best selling on to a early Cooper S owner at a premium price (due to rarity value) and then using the cash raised to buy or build a top spec 1275 A series for your '89.
