Looking good, just had a look through. I saw that engine on ebay, thought it quite amusing that he refused to sell it to anyone who would put it in a mini

i did tell him that it was gonna go into a metro, but when i got there to pick it up he said "like fudge is it going back into a metro... but i dont care what it goes in to be honest, you had a story that involved a metro, and i have to take your word for it" :) so its all good! got it for a good price too!! no where near what people pay for them on ebay, and i got to test drive it on :o ;) private land

That looks awesome lewis =] Even with the current paint scheme it looks so right. Is that the end of the welding once that side panel is in?

cheers mate! nah thats not all the welding finished unfortunatly! still got

drivers rear turret
pair of sills
front wings (although im tempted to finish repairing these)
few small bits under the rear seat
heal board ends
van side

i think thats it then for the welding (i hope!) i have this week off work, got my fingers crossed it doesnt rain so i can get all the welding finished off, and then strip it down to a shell, stone chip what needs stonechipping and then its off for paint! im so looking forward to the re-fit! :bah:

while its raining i thought id "recover" some narrow sills from the new floors that were in the £100 cut and shut van shell, i drilled all the spot welds out, removed them and compared them to the ones i hand made, the difference is shocking! the "recovered" ones are as thin as paper, and wont last long at all, whereas the ones i hand made are twice as thick, and will prob outlast the rest of the car! i cant beleive how poor and how thin new panels are, they wont be going on my estate i can tell you that! lol

i dont know if you can tell on the pics, but the blue on is the 1 i made, the black is the "new recovered" panel...

Wow, nice one. Not far off!

Can't wait to see this complete. My need for an estate is growing by the day ;) Just keep telling myself I only have space for one!

not far off at all mate! really hoping to get it all finished within 6 weeks (if all goes to plan!) been refurbing all the running gear while the weather is holding me back from welding, but it should be at the body shop next week for me to prep it ready for paint, once its back at mine, ill get it water tight and let the paint harden for a week then the fit up begins! :w00t:

right, seeing as i have the rest of the week off work, todays tasks are...

-welding in the remaining van side (already tacked in place as i type, stopped for lunch :) )

-fabricate the drivers side turret

-remove the rear subframe, engine, exhaust

-sort the heal board ends

-offer up the beam axle to check fit

and i think that will take me nicely up until 6pm

heres a small pic to show van side tacked in..
