i have been thinking the one thing that really bugs me about the a series head is the carb being at the back, and getting a 8 port or xflow is not cheep at all.

i was wondering i am asuming the chambers extend to the front of the head, could you machine holes in the front, weld up some form of mating surface for a custom manifold and block up the holes at the rear. if so im going to try it with my spare 12g940,

look at this period x flow head for example

i am aware that that is a alloy casting but im sure the same principle applys face off the front, bolt on the mating surface plate. and block up the rear

I'm fairly sure you can do anything with enough time and equipment.... the bottom line however if you haven't got the means to do the necessary machining, welding, re-sculpting of ports etc etc then it's really a no brainer...

And the reason the carb is round the back on the mini is because it alleviates the problems associated with carb icing.

a far easier route would to be put an OHC head on, the easiest to do is probably the Fiat cinqincento head.

someone who worked with Mr. Vizard cobbled something together back in the days, and it worked well but not for long as water made its way into the chamber, Today we might have something to seal all the waterways up and withstand the tempratures. As GW says if you have the tools and nothing to do.

It was Dave Mountain (of Mountune) that cobbled one together, his workshop used to be round the corner to me.

the idea is you bore down from the top and insert a pipe blocking off the original intake, thus creating a better angle to the valve.

trouble is getting them to seal, and stay sealed, also you need to do a lot of head work, so need to be good at porting.

alright i dont think i will be doing this one

but the traditional layout x flow as pictured, it doesnt actually look to hard hard to do.

also i was thinking im sure i could make some 2 inch plugs of a reasonable gauge and stick them in the back and weld them in place,

i know its off topic but mini13 tell me more about the cinqincento head >_<

12g940 xflow turbo on a 998 hahaha :shifty:

I'm interested to know how you plan on welding those plugs.
