Hello again! Ive been busy, Here is my progress so far.
First thing I did was to cut open the breather tube and make a small plate to weld on.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Once the welding was cleaned up and it was given a coat of paint it looked ok.
Posted Image

Ive temp fitted it for now just to keep the timing gear clean.
Posted Image

Next I fitted the flywheel housing.
Posted Image

And then this red ring thingy.
Posted Image

Lightened flywheel from Mini Spares, Clutch and top clamping plate thing.
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

Now im not sure about this but some folk reckon you can get an extra 10 BHP with this colour.
Posted Image

This bit was next, All cleaned up of course.
Posted Image

Nasty bell housing. With the wrong type of plunger, but the other bits will be fine after a good clean.
Posted Image

Ta Da!!!
Posted Image

And a coat of primer on the cover.
Posted Image

Then the water pump, Mini Spares high capacity type.
Posted Image

Sorted.

Ive painted the bell housing and copper eased the plunger. Then I fitted it to the engine.

Also the Head has arrived. Its been away getting ported and polished. I was buying a MED rally spec head off a mate because he was going the 7 port route. Well thats all fallen through :) So I sent my 12g940 to get sorted. This is how it looks now.
Posted Image

Skimmed, ported, polished and all the valve gear fitted.
Posted Image

The chambers were ground back a wee bit to get rid of most of the rough casting marks.
Posted Image

The ports are now as big as can be done. They had to sleave the push rod guides to get the maximum size. The pics dont really show how much work has been done inside the ports, but ive had my fingers in there and they are smooooooooth. Also the exhaust ports were widened to match the LCB manifold and then polished.
Posted Image
Posted Image

The last pic is the new rocker cover. Mmmmmm blue.
Posted Image

Hope it all works well. Might of been better just buying a prebuilt engine. This is now a very expensive build. (£1900) so far.

C'mon! That engine deserves a proper LCB! Not such a cheapo welded-triangle pile of pipes.... :)

Good build - keep up the good work!

Yeah I know Its not the best!!! Its one my mate took off his rally clubman. He had it made specifically for his rally car. He then turned it on its roof on stage 5 of the snowman last year. But it works quite well even for a home made jobby. Once the engine is run in I will look at changing the whole system.
Thanks for looking.

Nice work man, that head's a peice of art!

A prebuilt engine would have been cheaper, but you now know your engine inside out. Counts for a lot, in my opinion.

Anyway, what's your plan on the ignition front? Megajolt, Aldon, 123?

Watching this, should go well.

Thanks. Its my first proper build. I rebuilt the MG metro engine thats in the car at the mo, but this was a bit more of a challange. This is the mini its going in.

Thanks for the link. Im going to transfer the electronic ignition from the MG engine in "Haggis " to the new engine and see how it runs. I recon it will be ok for now.

You know its funny you should ask that because i had the exact same thought when they arrived. But I phoned Jonspeed who supplied the strap and the bolts and they said they were the correct ones!!

Ok so the head is on and torqued down. Ive stripped all the gubbins off the 1275 in "Haggis" and will wheek it out at the weekend. The last job to do on the 1380 is the cam timing. Ive ordered the timing disk thingy from Mini Spares and hope its a fairly simple job to time in the cam. It needs to be timed in at 104.5 deg acording to the info that came with the cam. If all goes well the enginbe should be in at some stage next week.
