Engine intallation day has finally arrived!!

Posted Image

A tiny bit down...left a bit...right a bit...fire..

Posted Image

Its in!! speedo cable connected and pot joints slipped home...they were a bit akward, but a wee shoogle and in they popped..

Posted Image

And the engine mount bolts lined up first time..no wiggling or faffing at all..and I even put them in the right way round this time..

Posted Image

But while I was under there I noticed the callipers had got dirty...looks like a bit of cleaning is required.

Posted Image

And some dust in my cave!! I shall have to get Mrs Minimad out with her duster!!

Posted Image

Thats all for a while, im off to Plockton in the morning for a few nights in the caravan...dammed work keeps getting in the way of Mini building...

Looks good man :) im not 100% but i think the shake proof washer on the brake like is meant to go under the nut about the subframe.

So today was the big day...Me and Big-F went out to the cave...First job was to bleed the clutch and then we fitted the Maniflow twin box Exhaust...I know its the quiet one but Haggis is no longer a noisy boy... Adjusted the Tappets to 14 thou and topped off the fluids..So it was time to start this engine for the first time..A brand new 1380 with ported big valve head and an MG metro cam...No straight cut gears or other noisy stuff this time..but its still a 1380 so should go quite well..

And so to the first start...Clicky!!

Sorry the quality is rubbish..I phone video!

I cant believe it started first time...we span it up with the fuel turned off at first to get the oil presure up and then off it went..Its smooth and sweet as a nut..No idler gear chatter or other rattles...Im well pleased with myself..

Many thanks to Big-f for helping with the clutch and stuff...MOT is next..

Just started it up and left it runing for 10 mins at 2500 revs...got a bit warm but I switched the lecky fan on and everything was good.. Once it had cooled down I checked for leaks..None!!.... well pleased.
