Hi..the engine spec will stay the same, but im changing the wide ratio box out for a standard ratio gearset...Im removing the 3.1 diff and going back to the 3.44...With the cross pin diff..Im runing 12 inch wheels so top speed will be around 100mph at 6000 revs...but the 0-60 time should come down quite a bit...Also the engine power will become more useable on the twisty roads. I was pretty much in 2nd and 3rd the whole time with the old set up...It was fun when the cam was "on" but 2nd to 3rd was a big jump in ratios, so not easy to get the right gear every time...So this new set up should be a lot more fun...if a little noisy on the "A" road cruise..What's the final spec on this going to be Andy?

Old Diff..
All stripped down..
62 divided by 18 = 3.44..
Stripping the cross pin diff, First I removed the short pin by shoving a small screwdriver through the access hole in the other short pin...I had a huge blonde moment with this bit and had to phone John at Guessworks, he was very nice and explained how to remove the short pin...he never laughed at me either...nice bloak..
Once its out you can remove the planet gear it holds in and then push out the long pin.
Once the long pin is out its easy to remove the last short pin which is part of the center section. thats it all stripped..

All done!!
Does any one know how tight it should be? I cant turn the output shafts by hand. but they do move a tiny bit untill the slack gets taken up..is this correct?

Does anyone remember that Cooper S cylinder head?
Well its back from the machine shop, they took 20 thou off the face and it came up pretty good...
Except for this...
So its a door stop!!
In other news...my cross pin diff has been giving me a bit of a hard time..built it up 5 times with new and old fiber washers and it still locks up every time I tighten the crown wheel bolts....
So I spoke to john at Guessworks who informs me that sometimes the new pinion gears can be a bugger to lock onto the old output shafts...something to do with the machining...any way the answer is to fit the old pinion gears onto the new diff pins and see if that cures the problem..
Anyone else had this problem..
