first i pick the bonnet up off the floor, then push it down onto the pins at the back and close, then secure the hooks at the front and give it a tug to make sure its on

always tap the bonnet twice after closing it up, it will help your car start if you show it some love

**note: not all aspects of this post are strictly true**

...sometimes the bonnet is leant against the bin or a wall

Hey,

Just read my 1973 Mini handbook and it says that the bonnet should be lowered onto the catch, two hands placed on top and pushed down until the catch clicks.

It all depends on what car your learning in though, my uncles Jaguar X-Type bonnet has to be dropped from about 10 inches, as it has a catch on either side, it will not close properly from pushing it down. (Yes, Jaguar say this is how to close it too.)

Still makes me cringe when I do it though!

Jack.

I've only just realised that the recoil spring has been missing off my bonnet catch for the last year at least, now I've grabbed one off Ebay and the bloody thing shuts properly for once! I've just got to adjust the pin on the bonnet a bit and the chrome lip might even line up with the grille!

As adam93rio for Huey, except I tap the dash on climbing in. As everyone else for Rocky (either drop & check or lower & push). However, have taken to making sure I haven't left anything hard in the channels (eg a nut) or on the rocker cover (eg a spanner) :shifty:

i have to jump on my mini one a fair bit!

But, yea what I have been told is new cars you should drop them, older cars generally always need a push. I think part of it might be because of thinner metal etc you end up with a slight dent in new cars if you push them down rather than drop them. Friend of mine lost a deposit on his car because he pushed it instead of dropping it and left a slight indent.

Lower and push. With modern stuff always drop it from about 6 inches, they need the extra oomph because the catches are a bit heavier, and also the metal is more easily dented if you push them, the metal on modern cars is generally quite thin.
