Hi,
As per the title, I'm looking for any information anyone may have on the whereabouts of beaches in the northwest you can drive a car onto - specifically, my Mini.
Me and a couple of mates came up with the idea (That old chestnut!) and were wondering whether it would be at all possible in our wonderful world of health and safety legeslation.
Not planning to do anything wreckless (if any council, beach patrol people are reading), just want to drive onto the beach with a few mates, have some food and drink (non alcoholic, since we're driving) then head home.
Needless to say there'll be some great photo opportunities too.
I know there's places like this down south, but where can I drive my car onto a beach in the north-west, preferably not too far away from Preston, Lancashire.
Thanks very much!
Matt

In wales.
I'd need to develop a sense of direction before going there, but yeah, planning to go there one day, was just looking for anything a little closer to home.
Thanks though

there are a few about 25miles from preston, heysham, middleton sands, or hest bank, if you check google maps i am sure you will find them or drop me a pm i will give you directions
without being morbid the one at hest bank is where the cocklers drowned the other year

Matt, you can drive onto Southport beach (opposite Pleasure Land) theres an exit off the roundabout to the beach, up a ramp, there is a pay booth just as you reach the sand (it used to be £3 for the day not 100% sure what it is now). OR If you carry on further up the coast road you can get onto Southport beach at the next roundabout (again i think there is a pay booth) OR If you carry on down the coast road towards Ainsdale and turn right down past Pontins you can get on Ainsdale Beach, again there are pay booths once you reach the sand.
I would recommend Ainsdale beach over Southport, if your really wanting to get your Mini full of sand and all that salt off the sea
I think they only charge in peak times i.e summer day time, but dont quote me on that been a few years since ive been on either, and not in my car may i add lol!!
There is also Formby Point Beach (squirrel reserve), you cant get all the way onto the beach with your car, but if you go to the furthest car park it backs onto the sand dunes, so opportunity for photo's and not filling you car with so much sand and the beach is a small walk over the dune. Also in the first car park you can park with the tree's as a back drop. This is a National Trust site so there is a charge in the day time, but if you go after 6pm i think it is, its free. Again dont quote me on this not been for a while.
