i am aware there are several reasons why this could be hard but lets think about this logically.

is the imps engine directly mounted to the rear axle? but the wheelbase looks the same as the mini and the size of all the components would suggest it could fit very nicly in the boot. i am deadly serious about starting this project but i think i will need some information from others first.

or if not could the block be converted to work FWD

What's the point?

removing one obsolete engine and replacing it with another obsolete engine with pretty much the same power.

I can't think of a single sane reason for attempting this conversion.

Way to much work for (what I'd consider anyway) a backwards step. Imp engines are more expensive to tune, less reliable(IMHO anyway) that the A-series.

Bits used to be a bit scarce for them as well, maybe thats changed.

Couple that with an IVA nightmare and thats a recipe for disaster.

Oh, and moved to mini chat!!

ANy engine conversion will shoot your insurance into the sky.

My 1380 engine added £300 to my insurance, and that's a mini engine.

But putting ANY alternative engine in your mini, regardless of power, will increase your insurance. I don't know why, but the insurance company see this as a major modification

im sorry if my immagination has made people face palm but im just interested in the limits. some of the retro engine transplants are really interesting.

i think this is one of those things that leaves you ending up with a ruined mini shell and a knackered imp rotting in your driveway. stick with the mini the way it was made, youll be able to enjoy it that way and drive it rather than pouring money into a doomed project.

You could always put the A Series in the front of the Imp, since it'll be going spare.
