are these road legal?

yep and as said above, an SVA and Q plating plus working lights etc etc will make it roadworthy, saw a nice one drive past me a couple of months ago.

there are chasis you can buy which are designed for donor parts such as frames that takes mini parts or that take fiat 126 parts

When I get mine SVA'd, i'l be using the donor cars registration due to a certain amount of the doner car being used!

Its all Mini running gear, and luckily the kit I bought came with a donor chassis number and V5 :D

Well I decided to stick with red as I like the black and red theme!

Bit of a rubbish update tonight!

I decided to go with Dannys idea and polish up the existing flooring with a wire brush as I dont fancy paying £170 for 2 new floors!

I started, then my battery gave up on my drill, and I left the charger and other battery on site! Doh!!

Anyways, heres a quick pic of how its coming up.....

Posted Image

Hopefully you can see where I started!!!

The other thing I finished was stripping the sub frame. After much searching, I finally found out how to get the top arm roller pins out. I wasnt clouting them hard enough!

Anyways, once fully stripped I gave it a good clean up with petrol and a rag, then gave it a light coat of red hammerite spray...

Thats all for tonight im affraid folks!

I would love to see how the gear change mechanism works on this.

Cool project!

Hi mate,

Good luck with the project........your hardest problem without doubt is the sva.
I didn't build mine and bought it fully done and sorted.

Check out mine in this thread

It's great fun to drive however I have had to fit a poly carb screen just for a bit of driving comfort and safety.
Mines got a brand new 1293 engine fitted.
You will need a 4 core radiator or some other clever way of cooling it down.

Nothing major today, but definitly a step in the right direction!

First up this morning I went out to the garage and had a good clean up. Its amazing how quick a single garage gets messy!

After a bit of a re-shuffle, and a bit of precarious sweeping...

Posted Image

I was ready to work on the buggy!

First up was to clean the edges of the remaining floor panel. Once I had done this I fitted it onto the buggy.

Ready to be popped...

Posted Image

And all fitted nicely :P

Once this was done, I set about prepping the car so I can start building the front back up.

First of all I attacked it with a wire brush, then gave it a couple of good coats of black hammerite...

Posted Image

Posted Image

Im still not 100% happy with the finish, but think once its all built up it will look pretty good!

Thats all for today, and probably for a while now as the Mrs is due to drop any time soon!!!

Bit of a boring one today, and not expecially big but another job done!

When I bought the buggy, Malcolm told me that the steering rack was refurbished before he put it on. Its in excellent condition, although the rubber gators had all split. I bought a new pair on ebay last week, and set about giving the rack a quick clean and fitting the new boots :)

Heres a new one next to an old boot...

Posted Image

And here is the rack all booted up! :)

Posted Image

I also gave the rack a light coat of paint just to give the shine back, although I havent got any pics yet!

Cheers for the reply Scally :)

I got over the rust problem in the end with a decent wire wheel so hopefully got that sorted!

Another small update today. Painted the front of the buggy black in preperation for fitting the steering rack. Will post some pics once shes all fitted up :)

Not much of an exciting one today im afraid!

First up I painted the steering coloumn last week and it turned out like this...

Posted Image

Next I cleaned up the part it attaches to, and gave it a quick lick of paint!

Posted Image

I also fitted the steering wheel and coloumn, but forgot to take a pic!
