Hi everyone,
Possibly a simple problem, but is there a way of identifying which type of carb I have? There doesn't appear to be any markings anywhere that make it obvious whether its a HIF44 etc??
Cheers,
Neil.

Measure the diameter of the choke ( this is the big hole through the middle ) this will give you the size, and then a picture would have helped to tell you what sort, H, HS, HIF etc etc

If the fuel float bowl is separate and to one side of the carb is is a HS type, if the float bowl is integral then it's HIF type.
1 1/4" = HS2
1 1/2" = HS4 or HIF38
1 3/4" = HS6 or HIF44
Bold carbs are most common, that's if yours is an SU...

I think on the HIF38 and HIF44 there is a difference with the rear of the carb were the filter bolts on from this you can tell if its 38 or a 44, but can't find a picture to show it.

I've been having this problem recently. I keep seeing contrasting things on whether I've got a HIF38 or HIF44.
Found this page which was quite helpful. The top picture is the HIF38 and the bottom is the HIF44.
