well I am telling you from experiance and all 20yrs of it, now your engine your choice, but, rings do pass pistons especially when clocking 6,000 rpm. sorry to give you bad news but It requires a rebuild and that will inc new pistons

My oh my, i forgot about this thread!

Sorry minidaves, but i dropped this engine in my mini, and have covered a couple of thousand miles since. In fact, it made it to hunstanton and back, cruising at about 75 on the dual carriageway behind a modern car, for an hour or so (friend's 107) with four people in it. And buckets and spades. :(

So, not rings then :)

Most likely, as was said by miniobsessed, was a foreign body of some ilk. Or has been suggested by a knowledgable mini builder, the tip of a spark pug that broke off.

Cheers!

I have to say that I think there's been something in the pitted cylinder, and I wouldn't worry about it!
The oily cylinder i believe to be Oil from the head, as suggested above check for wear and replace, however i would as par of the course, replace the vlave stem seals anyway.

My thoughts exactly :P

However, when i checked and stripped the head, i only got 4 stem seals in the head kit. Sooo i only changed the exhausts.

As a results, it still smokes on startup.

However, if you read my project page, you'll see that i have another head, which is going to get properly overhauled, and then bolted on with a 266 cam and twin HS2's >_<

The payen kits come with all 8 IIRC.

If you get a kit with just 4 then you need to change the inlet seals.
