Hi

I have a 1986 City and going to convert my clocks to a centre clock. I have the clocks and the oval shaped surround from an earlier Mini but what I want to know is........
Will I have to change the Bulkhead Centre Panel (not sure what this panel is called ) as it looks as though the Voltage Stabiliser on the back of the clocks is going to foul it.
Thanks for any advice.

Mick

No you wont, hundreds of people (even those with very late minis) have swapped to the center speedo. I have a 1986 Mayfair and i've done it in mine:

Don't mean to hijack the thread but the picture posted by Down&Out intrigues me- your radio is right below the switches- how do you get the heater to fit back in (I see the hoses in the picture).

who needs a heater :strongsad: lol

it isnt there! :o just like my mini.

ive just done the centreclock conversion.

was easy enough, the bottom 2 holes you can use captive nuts and the rest some selftappers will do the trick.

here it is (will look lovely when i clean it up):

got the leather back bits for a fiver at himley and the 2 vents at the side for a fiver at another stall at himley. oh and the other diall pod for a tenner. :D

lovely.

for the wiring loom ive been informed that the adaptor mini-loom is the best option to take. ;)

i converted my 85 mayfare, looks really good. you will have to remove the blanking plate in the bulkhead, and you will need a conversion loom. look for Jupitus on here, he sells them :(

oh and have a look here

Yeah - I've changed my 86 City to centre clocks - It was a while ago (about 2 1/2 years?), but IIRC we didn't remove the blanking plate in the bulkhead?

You don't need the conversion loom really, either - We just used what we already had and chopped it straight in. But to be honest, I can't remember that much about it & certainly don't have the diagram any more, so the conversion loom might be the easiest way to go!

Sorry, I missed this!

I'm not sure how much I paid for it in total, as it wasn't complete when I bought it and had to source the airbag elsewhere. But I sold a complete one last year for £45 - if I remember rightly?

I am new to this type of conversion, but if i convert my 1988 mini to a central clock wont the speedo be less acurate as my mini has 12 inch wheels and the origonal speedo is geared for 10 inch wheels?
:)

I did it too, made my own loom. I'm a total numpty when it comes to wiring so if i can do it...... no need to buy the conversion kit.

I had to make a new bulkhead blanking plate, as it was indeed fowling with the speedo.

Dont buy the Minispares conversion loom, its shocking, I had to replace all of the bulb holders, as they were cheap chinese versions, that simply didnt function :)

Edit : Thread revival lol :(

Just Finished mine the other day! >_< fitting a centre speedo in an SPi proved to be difficult, but it works now :) Had to move the alarm box as well as all the other brackets that are fitted in the injection mini's
