Model: Austin 1000
Year: 1979
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible): Unsure which bulbs I need

I've not had a Mini for long and it's my first one. I'm just wondering which bulbs I need for the headlights. AFAIK, they're standard but I don't know what lights are standard on a Mini. I've checked the Haynes manual 1969-2001 and the Haynes Handbook and Drivers Guide 1969-1992 and can't find any information. I've also searched this forum but it seems to be taking forever for me to find an answer and I'd like to buy some before it gets dark later.

The left light is fine but the right one is a bit dim.

If you need a photo I'll go take one for you.

[EDIT]Oh yeah, I wrote down the markings on the bulb already in there earlier.

Your Mini would have originally come with 'Sealed Beam' type headlamps and the whole headlamp unit has to be replaced.

If someone had fitted Halogen headlamps, then only the bulb would need replacing.

So I need to replace the whole thing? That sucks. :)

Sealed Beam Headlights arent expensive, but use the opportunity to upgrade to halogens, they make a massive difference to the standard candles :)

Sealed Beam headlamps are quite cheap though and removing the headlamp unit is very easy as long as the little screws that hold it in place haven't rotted away leaving nothing for your screwdriver to grip.

Alternatively you could always buy a set of Halogen headlamps which will give a far more effective beam for night driving.

I was reading people recommending them when I was searching through the forum but any expenditures like that will have to wait until the end of the month.

I removed the front of the headlight earlier and only had a bit of trouble with one rusted screw but not so much that I couldn't work with it.

I'll look into halogens later when I have time.

This shows what it involves should you decide to make the switch: -

Thanks. Seems simple enough. I don't have a soldering iron but I'm bound to know someone who does.
