very old battered shell
new shell
hasn't actually moved under its own power since i bought this

What's the difference between Tamiya M-05 and M-03??
They have different chassis designs. The M-05 has a lower centre of gravity and rear mounted servo for example. They also have different suspension geometry (am I sounding a bit geeky? ).
By all accounts I have heard that the M-03 is just as good, really and considerably cheaper.

needed getting dirtyThis is heavily based on my mini, but obviously, not a mini shell.
I think the main features are there in essence.

You can find used ones or older model versions like the M-03 still in the box on ebay for a decent price. Balpark $90-150 US or about $60-80lb.
I picked up mine on craigslist for under $50.00, but I got a hell of a deal on that. The guy thought it was broken and he didn't tell me. He just said that it needed a new battery. Turns out it was wired incorrectly so his deception/stupidity was my gain.
Usually they come as a kit that you have to assemble yourself, but it's pretty simple. You can buy unpainted and painted kits.
The Mini Shells can be bought seperate as well, including a Monte Carlo Rallye version fully painted.
Also there are a ton of upgrades to make it handle better or go faster.
