The white/pink is the ballasted wire. you will need to add a resistor if you run a ballast coil with plain wire.

I very much doubt that you will get A) a resistor or B) resistive wire........ try Autosparks.

Does the new electronic ignition pack come with a new 12V coil? If so, you need to use normal wire, as it needs a full 12V feed. (The elec ignition probably also needs a full 12V feed)

the car came to me with the dizzy not fitted, however the electronic module fitted to it is a small red quadrant that fits inside the distributor body, and uses the normal rotor arm. The pink and white wire running from the dizzy back to the ignition switch and fuse box has RESISTIVE written on it, I need to replace this as its got very hot before and the pink and white sheath is burnt off in places, and has started to cook a number of wires, which is not good!!! the coil in the car is the one that came with it, i cannot see any indication opn it whether its ballasted or not, but the haynes manual i have suggests that the age of car does mean its a ballasted ignition system.

voltage at coil feed with ignition on is 12v, and actually having just looking the coil does say 12v

How did you measure that? You can only measure the voltage across the coil by actually measuring it across the coil. If you measure the voltage at the end of the disconnected cable, you will always read 12v. Running a 12v coil on a ballast system will cause failures.

Is it one of the Britpart electronic kits? The main issue is what coil you have. If it says 12volt then it probably isn't ballasted, but you could measure the resistance to be sure - with no wires connected it should measure about 3ohms across the spade terminals., a ballast coil is about 1.5ohms.

If it isn't ballasted just crack on with a bit of wire 1mm sq.
