Bit of a noob question: but what are the difference between single and twin box exhaust systems. apart from the obvious. What i want to know is what are the pros and cons of each.

And any recommendations?

It will be going on a 96 spi and needs to be side exit as i have tow bar (which i have never used).

Also where to buy? We are driving home, Malmö, sweden to edinburgh in June, so ideally would just stop somewhere and have it fitted there. We are driving around for about 2 weeks so we will be all over.

Cheers

Craig

Im thinking of getting a new exhaust system for my spi, single box has one silencer so will be louder, twin box has two silencers so will be quieter. You will need to get a 'CAT back' system in order to keep your catalytic converter. I suggest either an RC40 from minispares or a maniflow system from minisport. I would personally go for a twin box.

i had a single box, it was a bit noisier, and used to drone a lot on the motorways, so i bought and fitted a maniflow twin box 2"centre exit, its quiet if your just pootling, but give it some stick and it makes a nice noise. maniflow are good, fit really well. also heard good things about rc40s

Yeah fancied a rc40 but where to get it fitted? I saw minispares have a good selection but do they fit too or is it just a shop.

hobnob got ya on the cat back - i will also be needing the flexijoint section.

the exhaust at the moment is single and to be honest i like the sound a bit noisey - but hey!!

Any mechanic garage should be able to fit a new exhaust.

I'd go for a twin box, single box hurts your ears on a long drive.

Anyone have this rc40 on an spi?

any reason why it is soo... much cheaper (its from the classic rc40 range) than the "millenium" rc40 range.

Cheers again

Depends what you are using the car for and your personal preference. I used to have a twin box rc40, it was a nice gentle level of sound. Then I swapped to a single box maniflow which is a bit louder.

The maniflow looks a lot nicer with it's rolled stainless lip.

The rc40 looks a bit cheapo and the "stainless" tip rusted on mine.

I'd vote a twin box maniflow if you can afford it.
