No Hegnirst, as of yet I have not had any problem regarding me putting my plate on the bonnet, it seems that the powers to be in Northampton are sensible and have better things to do than hound those that " Dare to be different ", thanks for the comments on my car and if you happen to see any of us at the shows, ( we loosely come under the heading of MINI HOSPITAL ) come over for a chat bud. p.s can i remember asking you something about the really bright LED dash/instrument bulbs you have in your car ? and where you got them? ( maybe I am just getting old or have I just said that? )
yea!
what did you do with the lisense plate holder?
i got the LED strips from ebay mate
heres a link

ive been wanting to put a lisense plate there for a while because i feel there is a ton of things you can do to the back of a mini but not much for the front especially on a clubman :/ and it looks a bit more rallyish :)
where did you get yours from? im going to look for a black silver one :)

Probably everyone who has commented on this thread feels the same as me; last time I checked your name is on the V5, your time effort and money goes into your car so why should it be a dictatorship with such strict rules telling you what you have to do with your own belongings. If you want a sticky number plate on your car just have one it will more than likely be fine and if it's not than o well for me I won't have one at all.....until of course dreaded MOT day lol

I read this whole thread from start to finish. One of the best I've read, highly amusing!

Over here (Belgium) a bonnet number plate is illegal but you'll only get a remark when they do the MOT test + you can get pulled over by the police ...

Before anyone has a bite at my comment, both my plates on both of my minis are in the correct places and comply with the law. But I was just thinking that actually, having the license plate on the bonnet (if it is right at the bottom so that it is almost vertical) probably makes it easier to see and easier to be seen by cameras as it is not practically scraping on the ground and tucked in under the bumper? Just a thought...

ok that has cleared that one up for me ill be keeping it in mind for shows but not for road use thanks guys
If it's for shows, surely you could have both plates on and just remove the plastic plate when you arrive at the show, leaving you with the adhesive one on the bonnet. Then come hometime, whack the legal one back on.

The number plate must also be vertical, flat, and made from reflective material of the correct type. These things make a bonnet mounted plate illegal as has already been said on this thread and countless others. Please don't contradict good advice with your personal opinion of the law, it makes it very confusing for the OP. Whether you can see a problem with it is irrelevant to the question. The DVLA clearly state that they know of no manufacturer of self adhesive numberplates which comply with the British Standard and they state in no uncertain terms that the plates are illegal.

Show plates are also illegal, the Police definition of a show plate is 'fraudulent'. You car is registered in the UK, not on the UK roads. Wherever it is, if it's in public it must display a legal reg plate. There must be enough threads about this by now surely?
