im guessing the reason that jag's etc have stick on plate, etc legaly is because when it was done there was no legislation to outrule the plates being like that and you cant bring in legislation to suddenly make things illegal and expect everyone to change stuff, you cant backdate rulings otherwise all old cars would have fog lights, seat belts etc all the safenty stuff which has came into production since their manufacture.

If people are unsure of the regulations regarding number plates then click on the link below.

The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) pdf

There are differances for vehicles registered before 1973, 1973 to September 2001 and for vehicles registered after September 2001.

It is a pdf document so you will need adobe reader to open it. You can print it off and read at your leisure. In it you will find all you need to know for number plate for all type of vehicle. And black plates (pre 73) do have to be mounted vertically if possible. It's a bit difficult on a E-type as the only place to mount it vertically would block the rad!

also the MAZDA mx5 mark 1 & 2 both came with stick on plates on there bonnets but they have a refective type sticker on them so they are fine

if you got one like that made up for a mini you should be fine :shifty: aslong nothing is obsruting it

Just had a word with a traffic cop mate of mine and he said that basically (within reason) they are looking at your rear plates, he said that you are 'highly unlikely' to be hassled for a stick on front plate.
He also said that technically he could give a ticket for a badly placed stick on front plate but wouldn't, in the modern world with speed cameras and ANPR the rear plate becomes the most important.

He clearly stated (as am I) that this IS NOT THE LAW but is the general view of enforcement officers.

I know this doesn't really help as to the answer of the original question but it is an interesting view lol

Hi,
You could get Roofless to make some up on magnetic material
the type that signwriters use on transits.
Then you could make the "correct" number plate removable
for shows etc.
I would be in no doubt that stick on plates would be illegal
for a variety of reasons, but due to where I live and my age
lets just say you have to make an effort to get stopped!
