I wouldn't bother draining that little out. You can't drain the last litre or so very easily anyway with it in the car.

FIRST REMOVE THE BATTERY or at least disconnect the negative and make sure the battery is properly covered so that nothing can fall on it. Ideally, remove it.

Just clamp the hose and remove the hose from the line under the car (catch any fuel spilled from the line in a container). Then pull it through into the boot. Release the strap and remove the fuel cap, pull the tank through into the boot and put the cap straight back on. Then just lift it out of the boot, careful you don't tip it too far or it will spill fuel through the vent. It will now be much easier to drain the fuel into a proper fuel can. Oh and remember to remove the sender wiring and vent lines before you do anything. An injection tank will be a little more complex to disconnect but not much. If it is injection be very careful with the fuel filter unions as they are NLA.

Best way I’ve found is to disconnect and remove the battery (i guess as your welding in the boot) along with the spare.

Jack up and support the rear of the mini on axle stands on the rear subframe. Then with a suitable container (fuel can) undo the small clip or cut it if you plan on replacing it on the rubber fuel hose under the car and allow it to drain out of the tank into you container.

Then remove the bolt towards the boot lid on the tank strap and pull the two connectors off the sender. Then with the fuel cap removed remove the tank from the boot and replace cap.

Its also even easier if you remove the boot lid first, 4 nuts on the hinges, 2 screws for the straps on the boot lid and the boot lamp connectors down by the bolt for the fuel tank strap.
