Trading standards officers say it is not illegal to sell cut and shut cars, provided the work has been done in a professional manner and the vehicle is roadworthy. this was taken from one of the links provided by another poster.

we all have different understandings of what a phrase can mean, having never talked to 99.9999999% of people i cannot comment on there understanding of what the phrase "cut and shut" means so i can only comment on what people i have spoke to and worked with in the car trade, i cannot say the majority of people think its different because i have never talked to a large amount of people about the subject to come to that conclusion.

"is that not what i said right at the beginning" Yes, so you agree with the rest of us. So why are you posting as though you are making a different point entirely? if i said it first then its you who are agreing with me.

Well this is a healthy discussion :). Cut 'n shut is such a catchy term it gets used for lots of things. To me it's most appropriate for forming a bend in tube by cutting partly through in a vee then welding the two edges back together. It's usually derogatory when applied to cars; for most people - including insurers, not having a particular interest in engineering, the mere suggestion it's not as it left the factory would put them off. You'd also have to consider potential problems over registering a car that has more than one attributable identity.

Any pictures yet?

Also, been thinking!!

Is this car a saloon thats had a pickup back fitted to it or pickup thats had a saloon front fitted to it?

Surely since such a vehicle is now of uncertain origin then its gonna have to be "q" plated?

There gonna be loads of cut and shuts driving around with current and Valid MOTS, this doesn't mean they're roadworthy. A roadside VOSA inspection may well condem the vehicle.
