I definetly said take the bonnet off it will make your life so much easier. :cry:

It's funny I made the exact same mistake. Had to read it twice for it to make sense. Wonder why that is :/

Update: Just in case anyone is interested (and otherwise to show that I've used at least some of the advice I asked for)

Space cleared in garage (a job in itself)
Mini driven over from parents (carefully)
Bonnet off.
Washbottle out (is there a way to do that without it peeing everywhere?)
Air filter off (carb inlet stuffed with ball of clingfilm)
Brake master cylinder off
Haynes manual aquired (ebay)

Currently stuck at the stage of trying to get the servo mounting unit off. Top bolt is out but I think there is another one to undo and it's on the badly rusted plate and if it's the one I think it is, it's in a bad way. Might not be enough of it left to undo. Need to get hold of a deep socket before I can try though.
