Std Rear drum brakes

Goodridge Stainless Hose kit ZZAA0180-015 Mini 84 on (disc/drum)

I have purchased a set of Goodridge hoses to fit on my rebuild project.

However, the rear's seem very tight. Especially the R/h (second picture) as if they need to be a little longer. I can't remember how the original (rubber) ones were as it's so long ago.

Has anyone any experience. Do they seem okay. Have I done something simple when putting the rear brakes back together?

Any help appreciated

Thanks in advance

Steve

Anyone any experience or opinions on ths please?

I'm going to give Goodridge a call this morning but has anyone got a standard rear rubber hose that they could measure for me?

Thanks

I dont know length but on motorbikes from Hel hoses had one that was to short as they assumed it be same as another model so when i told them it needs to be longer it was like measure it and will send you a new one asap.
But would think mini hose sizes be known now!

Thats one clean underside and subframe wow!

Thanks for the reply.

I am of the same opinion that the mini sizes will be very well known now which is why I'm not sure if I have a problem or not.

Lot's of people must have these fitted and as yet not found any details of similar issue.

Cheers

Spoke to Goodridge & then the distributor who make up the pipes. (Both very helpful) They confirmed the 150mm length shoulder to shoulder.

They also said they sell many of these kits via all the usual mini suppliers and have not had any issues previously, but if needed could make me a slightly longer pair (presumably at a cost).

Is there something different about my set-up then?

The only other option I can think of is to turn the little "L" shaped bracket around so it sits slightly further back & make a longer copper pipe.

Any other ideas?

Cheers

Steve

I think you would get the flare nut on the copper ppe fouling on the rivet heads if you turned the bracket around.

If you lift the arm do they still seem too short - ie is it just because the arm is at full droop as there is no shock to hold it up?

I think they are usually quite a tight fit and as Graeme said, probably just because the radius arm is drooping. Once it's got the car weight on it and shocks fitted it should be fine.

I can go measure you a standard rear pipe if you need me to?

Thanks for the replies gents.

Graeme: I see what you mean about the flare nut on the rivet, I'll bear that in mind if I have to move the bracket. There is a shock fitted but it is at full extend. I'll try supporting the arm this evening to see if that relieves any of the tension.

Dale: If you are able to easily measure a standard pipe just for my piece of mind it would be appreciated. The goodridge one is 150mm shoulder to shoulder.

One of phone tech guy's I spoke to aksed if I had Hydrolastic arms fitted as they were slightly different. I'm convinced not but wouldn't know how to tell anyway.

I'll report back later once I have lifted the arms.

Kind regards

Steve

Steve, I measured a new one i have in the garage and it was 210mm from shoulder to shoulder so yours does sound very short.

PM MRA-Minis, i just noticed he has some for sale on ebay, the one i found may not be definitely for a mini!

If the suuspension can pull on the hose at full droop it needs replacing. Did you consider using the banjo hoses that do away with the pipe on the radius arm?

Thanks for the replies once again and for the measurement Dale. Much appreciated.

I have just been out and taken the damper and cone out so I can have a look at the pipe over the full travel of the arm.

I also found a picture of the old pipe install so I'm certain I have everything in the correct place.

Old pipe etc.

New pipe arm lowered

Arm upper travel. Not a great picture but the pipe is so tight I could get a tune out of it.

What's amazing and worrying me in equal measures is that nobody else seems to have had this issue yet there must be hundreds of mini's out there with this kit on.

Unless I'm missing the obvious, I think longer pipes are in order.

Cheers
Steve

Perhaps a mistake at Goodridge and they have put the wrong hoses in the packet or labelled them incorrectly?

Goodridge don't make these. They are made by a company called CAM Auto Design who distribute to all the major mini parts suppliers. Their "mini pervert" as he was announced when they put me through said 150mm shoulder to shoulder was the spec.

Just found this on fleabay saying 200mm (std rubber) but not sure where the measurement is taken.

Took the hoses off so now I can measure properly.

Shoulder to shoulder they are 143mm and after playing around recon they need to be at 160mm to give a nice curve without binding.

I'll give the supplier a call again in the morning & see what can be done.
