If you want to go with coilovers, you can cut the front off an old subframe and create your own beam sub setup and the only cost is the shocks. You may have to space your wheels out slightly as the coilovers are a bigger diameter than standard shocks. Simples!

I can remember when this idea used to be popular........ it never lasted, due mainly to the subframe collapsing

Oh yeah, you also needed to fabricate new rear exhaust mount and if driving hard, reinforcing the top shock mounts. most of the old problems were due to people trying to use the original front sub mounts "not a good idea" I completely re fabricated solid mounts and boxed off the centre of the front sub rail to stiffen everything up.

A pucka beam axle isn't really a bolt on option. If you have the where with all to reroute the brakes, handbrake and provide all the reinforced locating points for the suspension control arms you're likely to make your own beam too. I think the odd one was available to buy, but no longer.

who makes the beam axles?
