How straight forward is replacing the front teardrop mounts?

Can someone give me a quick guide? I think they may be screwed due to one wheel rubbing on the front of the arch, but ride hight is spot on - not sagging, and tie bars a straight and have new bushes fitted.

Easy to change - fit polyurethane ones! But rubbing on arch is common, you may need to trim it slightly.

Yeah, I know trimming is prob needed, but I want to ensure that everything bush-wise is in top order before I get the cutter out for no reason!

The wheels have been on for 10 years so I would have thought that the previous owner would have trimmed them if it needed doing. I have many receipts showing that he paid for pretty much everything else! Lots of documented history with this car... which is a nice change!

Is it just a case of undoing the bolts (towing eyes in my case) through the hole in the front valance and sliding old ones out, then reverse for new ones?

If I fit a spacer shim (to push the arch forward a wee bit) does it go between subframe and bush, or bush and body shell?

Personal opinion, only ever fit rubber teardrops, even on solid mounted subframes...

i replaced the rubber mounts on my mini for the last MOT, when i came to fit the fibreglass front they fell apart

i can see them being the cause for the wheels rubbing tho to be honest they dont really do much anyway with the rate they wear out

have you checked to see how much your rubber cones have sagged? and what size wheels and tyres do you have? this could also be the problem

but yes they are a simple case of unbolt the old and bolt in the new. but id personally only ever fit poly ones now

Cheers,

I think I'll change them anyway then. Was going to go genuine rubber. It's a road car. Horses for courses I guess.
