Went out in the rain and found that as well as the driver's side wiper not touching the lower half of the screen, the fast wiper speed is actually slower than the normal one!

Changed the oil... and flushed the radiator... It needed to be done. Likely had only 20kms on the oil - but a few years!

The Coolant came out clean & clear! (Also around the same vintage!)

Cleaned out the whole interior... My mini has been in storage for way too long!

My windshield and rear window rubbers seem to have 'sweated' a gummy sticky gunk on their surface. I wiped them off and the rubber below feels great. Rubbery and no signs of drying out. - Found this a bit strange - and messy.

A bee carcass flew out of the vent when I turned on the fan. Then a vent ring fell off on its own as I was fiddling about on something else. Glad they just twist back on!

The seats were a bit hazed, but some leather /vinyl cleaner bought them right back. I'm glad the 'leather' is fake. Otherwise, I'd likely have moldy leather to deal with... I am glad I had cool & dry storage...

The bottom lining of my floor mats (Originally some sort of anti slide foam rubber material) has turned into powder... I rubbed it all off with my hand. The rest of the material is fine. All good.

Fired it up for the first time in three months and pulled it out of the garage. It started up fine/looked okay underneath. Mot next year; fingers crossed!

Good luck!! - It has been a while since I've had a car in the UK. What would be the most common issue with minis regarding MOT failures?

Ball joint or suspension play, emissions high or rust/ corrosion

My daily was off the road for repairs so thought I'd take the Mini to work. Fired her up only for smoke to start pouring from under the bonnet!

Alternator was totally seized and the belt was rubbing hence the smoke. Got the belt off and ran her briefly without issue.

Next job to source and fit a new alternator and belt before the Wirral - Llandudno Mini run in Jan.

I replaced the 50 year old cones with new evolution cones and hi lows all 4 corners.

Replaced old copper brake line across the front with new HEL stainless lines, including up to the master cylinder as well as the lines going to the disks

Also replaced the old clutch master to slave line with a HEL line as well.

Done a complete grease all around.
Oil change and adjust tappets
flushed cooling system and topped up new coolant.

On the weekend will be replacing the shoes in the back as well as installing some superfin drums. Also replacing brake pads in front.

And in today's news, fitted the new alternator and belt which arrived the day after I ordered it. Great service from Mini Sport as usual.

Still very much on the novice end of working on my mini but it was a surprisingly straightforward job.

I'm doing a lot of re-preparation because (don't laugh) I'm going to enter the Tour of Cheshire historic rally in March with my son navigating. At 84 I know I won't win, but I want to have 'another go'. I need to go and practice my handbrake turns!

This afternoon I am going to inspect, clean and re-fit the twin H4 carbs and connect everything up. Then, once I have filled it with Valvoline VR1 20w50 I can start it up.

Thoughts on the red dots?

I have 'new' barely used (12,000 km - but 24 year old rubber cones...

I believe most would recommend replacing due to age, yes?
