My historic registration arrived, along with my black and silver plates, so I fitted them.

They look so much better on a black car!

Took it for its MOT and it passed with flying colours! No advisories either ... Thought I was dreaming, lol!

Replacing my timing chain gasket - why would this fall apart - possibly not enough lubrication? I replaced my crank pulley 2 months ago and did not touch it. The last time I changed to a new gasket was 2 years ago?

Referring to the donut that encircles the crank shaft and at bottom of timing chain cover

My driver's side (left) vent has never blown cool air, and I discovered that the pipe to it was cut off halfway, and the little scoop for the grille was missing. Thus it was only ever getting hot air from the rad. All the UK shops list the plastic scoop as NLA but Datch.fr in France had one. The hose is also NLA from everywhere except Rimmer Bros. They sent me a length of an alternative hose, narrower than the original but with an internal diameter similar to the foam inside the old one. It fits inside the vent and scoop rather than outside, but seems to work.

So grille off, wheel off, and I fitted all that, and now I should have fresh air.

And then I discovered the battery was flat, so on the charger it's gone.

Fitted a new steering rack to the clubman estate yesterday, and today took the carb off again to sort out the leaking float valve. :xxx:  Next to sort out the tracking properly.

Broke the windscreen!!

Its now that I realise I should have put the screen in before sending to paint.
Nagging feeling that the aperture after new scuttle in a little tight.
Cannot get the top right hand corner into the rubber.

Tightened up the bottom radiator bolt, then done a tightness check on all bolts on front subframe, all good.

Had a rattle in the interior of the car, passenger side rear door bin area, emptied it out and run my hand around to look for anything loose, got my finger jagged by a piece of welding wire that I missed on the clean up!

Refitted grille with an extra bolt on passenger side, it was a bit rattly, sorted now.

  • Screwed in both check arm grommets.
  • With a syringe, dripped a little  phosporic acid down the d/s front seam finisher;  a kind of slushing oil component. It should mix nicely  with the  sticky coach enamel in there.
  • Sniffed the air in the cabin  after burning incense in there yesterday; confirmed lovely.

Broke the windscreen!!

Nagging feeling that the aperture after new scuttle in a little tight.
Cannot get the top right hand corner into the rubber.

Really? Surely not before a complete  paint job?

I use an 8" stick, about 9mm thick, cut at an angle and smoothed off,  to push the rubber lip over , pushing form the inside, whilst holding the screen on the outside. A little mist of water for lubrication. And I'm talking about with a new seal. Take a good firm push but no risk of cracking glass.

The stick actually has a stump of a fork left at its end where the cut it in one place  and that provides a better handle for applying and directing force to the rubber.

|I recall a chap soaking his seal in warm water forst to make it more pliable. But I didn't so that , it was a warm day.  Handy to have a helper steady the glass from outside, but I didn't myself. I would prefer that though.

Also, as I recall from  quite recently,  I started at bottom middle, worked up oneside to  top misddle, then the other side... so the corners were not left until last, but a section of top middle. That gives a little more piability at those tougher areas.

I am assuming you are fitting the seal to the car frame first , then the glass to the seal in position.
